I learned my lesson the first time around with Jules, one year olds aren't too fond of celebrating their birthdays and my girls are so shy they don't do good in big crowds. With Kourtney, I decided to take a whole different approach and my ocd self thought I had it all figured out by planning her party after her big nap to ensure she would be a happy little birthday babe. So I planned her the most perfect little (and when I say little I mean over the top) flamingle brunch with some of our closest family and friends. As every mommy knows, don't count on your plans working out the way you envisioned. In true Kourtney style, she had her own little idea on how she wanted to spend her party, she slept for the most part and was grumpy when she woke up to a house full of people. Lesson learned, but we still had the best time celebrating her and one day she will look back and thank me for throwing her the best first birthday ever and for taking way too many party photos, right?
I decided on this theme early on when she was about 2 months. Her monthly photos (seen here) were done with a flamingo and my favorite heart blanket every month, it just made sense to continue the theme.

I set up the cutest little drink station with every single thing needed to make flavored coffee, iced caramel coffees with whipped cream, chocolate milk & of course, mimosas because let's be honest, it wouldn't be a true brunch without mimosas.
One of my favorite DIY's from the party was the hula hoop I decked out with all of her monthly photos and of course, included her little flamingo doll that she took her monthly photos with.
For food I tried to keep it as simple and easy for us as possible since it was a morning party. I did a waffle bar complete with all the fun toppings. Ordered eggs, bacon, and sausage from our favorite local breakfast spot. We also had a yogurt parfait station, some bowls of cereal and muffins. Super easy and something for everyone.
One of my favorite DIY's, I'll probably say this about every single one of them, was the balloon backdrop I made for her cake smash. I mean, just look at it! I had pinned something similar on Pinterest and was dead set on having it. Mine was a way smaller tropical version but I love the way it turned out. I also loved the bar cart, it's from Ikea and I spray painted gold, of course.
I also DIY'd all three of her birthday cakes, which looked cute until they started melting in the heat.
For favors I did the mini floaty flamingos and added a mini mason jar filled with donuts and topped with a gold straw. Easy snack the kids could take home, fill their cup with milk and enjoy their donuts.
I take the girls way too often on day dates to Pinkberry, it's Kourtney's favorite. So we had to have it at her party & it was a hit in the almost 100 degree heat.
The party wouldn't be complete without a fun photo backdrop. I DIY'd this last minute. I couldn't decide on what I really wanted until I was putting her monthly photos together. I recreated the heart blanket she laid on each month and included her gold name banner we used for the past 12 months.
Once the party was over and everyone was gone, Kourtney was back to her happy self and had the best mini flamingle with just us and her furry friends.
